Middleton-in-Teesdale and Newbiggin Parish Council

Parish Councillors


There are twelve seats on the Parish Council — eight for the Middleton-in-Teesdale ward and four for the Newbiggin ward.


Currently there are three vacancies for the Newbiggin ward and three for the Middleton ward).

Councillor Sue Bainbridge

Sue has lived in Middleton-in-Teesdale for many years and is passionate about the village and the surrounding areas. She is retired (or so she thought!) She volunteers with numerous local bodies: as a Community First Responder with NEAS, a walk leader both in Middleton and Barnard Castle, a bike leader in Barnard Castle, a founder member and Trustee of the Community Fitness Suite and volunteer Gym instructor and teaches Zumba Gold, Zumba and Blockfit in Middleton Sports and Social Club. Sue is a trustee, treasurer and volunteer with Stainton Grove Luncheon Club, the Secretary at Middleton Sports and Social Club and teaches Defibrillator and CPR with any group who asks her (for example local WI groups) and has helped train both in Teesdale and in Weardale and also delivered the Heartstart programme in local schools.Sue says, “I always had opinions about how the village looked and how the Parish Council acted, so l thought instead of complaining I’d do something about and joined the Parish Council to hopefully make the village better.”

Councillor Colin Headlam

Colin likes to meet people and talk about the things that mean so much to them about Middleton-in-Teesdale, to help to understand and get the best for the people of the parish. He's also interested in the upkeep of rural areas, paths and walk ways. Colin likes walking and most sports.

Colin is also the current Chairman of the Middleton Carnival.

Councillor John Miller

John has been resident in Teesdale for over 35 years, and has served 11 years on the parish council in three spells. He is keen on trying to improve the village appearance and has been active in the footpath volunteer programme.

Councillor Lynne Oxby (Vice-Chairman, 2022-23)

I ran a business in Middleton for nearly fourteen years, and joined the Parish Council in September 2015. After my retirement I stayed on the Parish Council, as Middleton has been a big part of my life for over 60 years, even though I now live in Eggleston. I’ll continue to serve and help the people of Middleton and Newbiggin as well and for as long as I can.

Councillor Kevin Tallentire (Chairman, 2022-23)

Kevin has lived in the village since 2017, and has always been interested in the local area, having spent his youth visiting his grandparents, who farmed at Middleside, most weekends.
Kev enjoys exploring the local countryside and has a keen interest in improving this great little village and listenin
g to the concerns of any of the residents.
